As you may have seen or heard, Frank Sprongl is returning to racing in Canada with CXE. The following is the press release issued by CXE:
Following the announcement of the newly signed partnership between McGregor Performance and the Championnat Xtreme Elite (CXE) comes more exciting news for teams and fans: the 2018 CXE season will see the competition return of six-time Canadian Rally Champion, Frank Sprongl.
Sprongl is a name that needs no introduction with Canadian rally fans, having virtually dominated the sport throughout the 1990’s in his ultra-powerful Audi Quattro. In addition to his six Canadian national rally titles, Sprongl is the owner of 51 national rally wins, four North American Rally Championships, and two national production class titles. In addition, he recorded five outright wins at the famous Mt. Washington Hillclimb, an event for which he was a longtime holder of the outright record.
The Ontario-based driver will take to the wheel of the brand-new McGregor high-performance side-by-side at each of the six CXE events in 2018 (five rallies and the GP3R rallycross). Sprongl’s wealth of rally experience, combined with the 1000 cc Yamaha-powered McGregor platform, will no doubt raise the level of competition in the side-by-side class. The CXE debut for the McGregor-Sprongl duo will take place at Rallye Mékinac on January 18, 2018.
In speaking about the new partnership, Sprongl said “The package that McGregor is building is amazing. It’s built so that everyone can go out and buy a competitive, turn-key side-by-side,” he enthused. “I think that McGregor and I teaming up will make for a winning combination. My goal personal goal is to try to beat as many rally cars as I can!” the multiple champion added.
“We’re so excited to have a driver of Frank’s caliber taking part in the CXE, and we’re even more pleased that he’ll be making his return with McGregor,” said Eric Tremblay, CXE Series Manager. “The side-by-side class has grown in popularity since its introduction, and having two great names collaborating to challenge for the championship will certainly help increase that growth,” he added.
